Celebrate Christmas with the NAC Orchestra led by George Daugherty, with special guests Tyley Ross, Kristin Clayton, the Caterpillar Puppets and the Ottawa Choral Society, on Dec. 20

December 09, 2003 -

Ottawa, Canada -- Fun-loving conductor George Daugherty returns to the Southam Hall stage to lead "Christmas with the National Arts Centre Orchestra", a festive concert and carol sing-along that the whole family can enjoy together on Saturday, December 20 at 19:00. Celebrate the best of the holiday season with Ottawa's homegrown singing star Tyley Ross and American lyric soprano Kristin Clayton, along with the Caterpillar Puppets, the Ottawa Choral Society prepared by Iwan Edwards, and a special appearance by Santa Claus!

Tyley Ross, a Canterbury Highschool graduate best known for lead roles in Miss Saigon on Broadway, the Canadian national tour of Tommy, and West Side Story at the Stratford Festival, returns to the NAC Orchestra where he last starred in A Canadian Broadway Spectacular in 2001. He will perform seasonal favourites such as "A Simple Song" from Mass by Bernstein, Mel Torme's The Christmas Song, Britten's Corpus Christi Carol and Schubert's Ave Maria, as well as joining Kristin Clayton to narrate The Night Before Christmas with special animation by The Caterpillar Puppets from San Francisco. Kristin Clayton will sing Christmas Time of Year, 'Tis Christmas Eve, "Quando me'n vo" from La Bohème and O Holy Night.

George Daugherty, who made his National Arts Centre Orchestra debut conducting Bugs Bunny on Broadway last season, will lead the NAC Orchestra and Ottawa Choral Society in seasonal delights including Courtney's A Musicological Journey Through 12 Days of Christmas, "Sing a Song of Gladness and Cheer" from Scrooge, "We Wish You a Merry Christmas", "Waltz of the Snowflakes" from Nutcracker, and "Shepherd's Pipe Carol".

All the audience members are invited to raise their voices in song to close the evening and welcome Christmas with a medley of "Jingle Bells", "Joy to the World", "It Came Upon the Midnight Clear", "Deck the Halls", "O Come All Ye Faithful" and more!

"Christmas with the NAC Orchestra" will be presented at the National Arts Centre on December 20 at 19:00.
