Compañía Talent Danza Ballet Español creates a blast furnace of Iberian energy and passion with Tango Flamenco at the National Arts Centre
October 18, 2004 -
OTTAWA -- One of Madrid’s hottest exports, Compañía Talent Danza Ballet Español’s seductively slides, swirls, and stomps its way across the stage in Southam Hall of the National Arts Centre on Saturday, October 30 at 20:00. Tango Flamenco combines sexy Spanish flamenco and passionate Argentine tango with live musical accompaniment, creating an irresistible tapestry of sound and movement grand bravura displays of dance and gesture convey all the hot-blooded energy of anger, desire, jealousy, and sexual tension.
This performance by Compañía Talent Danza Ballet Español is part of the NAC’s Dance Series A, which is generously sponsored by Casino du Lac-Leamy.
Created and directed by Artistic Directors Pascal Gaona and Antonio Najarro, Compañía Talent Danza Ballet Español is a thrilling showcase for the newest trends in classical Spanish dance. Choreographer Najarro expresses his considerable experience and personal style by using traditional dance forms as a springboard for creating his own idiosyncratic new and contemporary language of dance.
Bodies writhe and move in a seductive, sensuous rhythm. Male dancers set the scene with the ritual display of head tossing and foot stomping, to which the women respond by gracefully twisting and turning, hands snapping, feet tapping, and expressive faces convey a range of emotions from delight to melancholy to passion.
Tango Flamenco is a raw, gorgeous spectacle, a colourful high-energy fusion of the soul of Spanish flamenco and classical dance with the passion of Argentinian tango. The stage is filled with more than a dozen beautifully costumed dancers performing the stunning choreography as well as by an equal number of musicians from Ensemble Nuevo Tango (tango) and Jarcamora (flamenco). Compelling and captivating music drives the evening’s programme of two solos, two duets, two musical interludes, and five spectacular ensemble pieces which feature the entire company.
