RCMP - Canadian Coast Guard Begin Joint Marine Security Patrols on Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway

July 11, 2005 - OTTAWA – The RCMP and the Canadian Coast Guard are taking part in training exercises this week at the Canadian Coast Guard Base in Prescott, Ontario. On Wednesday, July 13 th, media are invited to go on-board joint marine security patrol vessels and observe them in action.

Following a briefing on this initiative by Mauril B élanger, Minister for Internal Trade and Associate Minister of National Defence, media will be invited to tour the patrol vessels, speak to CCG and RCMP officials about the new program and take part in a photo opportunity on-board the patrol vessels.

At the end of the week, the CCG and the RCMP will begin joint marine security and law enforcement patrols along the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River. This new partnership creates a major new on-water law enforcement and marine security presence and fast response capacity.
