RCMP Musical Ride raises 2,200 lbs of food for Ottawa Food Bank

February 4, 2005, Ottawa — This year’s Musical Ride Open House, which took place on January 29, was the most successful to date, raising more food for the Ottawa Food Bank than ever before.

“Every year the event seems to become more popular,” said Cst Maurizio Rosa, spokesperson for the open house. “Last week, visitors to the Open House donated 2,200 lbs of food — up 500 lbs from last year. As in past years, the event was a great success.”

In addition to the food, the open house also raised nearly $1,000 for the Ottawa Food Bank.

“We're very grateful to be part of this event, because it gives people the opportunity to have a great time while supporting a worthy cause,” said Michael Marin, Agency Relations at the Ottawa Food Bank. “With a record amount of food raised this year, the RCMP Musical Ride Open House is an important part of the fight against community hunger.”

Although the RCMP Equestrian Centre is open year-round, the annual open house provides an opportunity for members of the Musical Ride to educate the public about various aspects of the RCMP.

The one-day event draws thousands of visitors who tour the Musical Ride Stables, Visitors’ Centre and various kiosks showcasing RCMP services and technologies.
