Six winners selected in the RCMP “Name the Foal” Contest

Ottawa — August 27, 2007 — Six RCMP foals now have names, thanks to the creativity of five young Canadians and for the first time, one youth from Beijing, China.

The foals were named during the annual RCMP “Name the Foal” contest, launched this spring. The contest asks young people from Canada and around the world to find original names for six of the foals born each year at the RCMP Breeding Farm in Pakenham, ON. These foals may one day be part of the world-famous RCMP Musical Ride. This year, names had to start with the letter “E”.

More than 6,000 entries were received during the two months the contest ran. The following winning names were selected by:

  • Emma – Cody MacNeil, Balls Creek, NS
  • Ebony – Tess Morasse, Lindsay, ON
  • Ensign – Ty Bernier, Prince Albert, SK
  • Echo – Mataya Dixon, Red Deer, AB
  • Eyore – Taryn Bloor, Fort St. John, BC
  • Eureka– Tsui Hiu Yu, Beijing, China

All the winners will receive an authentic RCMP Stetson, a colour photo of the foal they named, a certificate signed by the Commissioner of the RCMP as well as various other prizes.
