RCMP Commissioner thanks Mr. David Brown

OTTAWA, June 15, 2007 - RCMP Commissioner Bev Busson issued the following statement today following the release of the final report by David Brown, the independent investigator appointed to lead an investigation into allegations related to RCMP pension and insurance matters.

“I would like to thank Mr. Brown and his staff for their professionalism and for the respect they demonstrated for the RCMP as they completed their mandate. We are carefully reviewing his report and recommendations.

The RCMP stands for truth and transparency. I am pleased to note that in his report, Mr. Brown acknowledged the extraordinary level of cooperation he received from the RCMP throughout his investigation.

We look to these findings in that same spirit of openness. Mr. Brown’s recommendations are an opportunity for the RCMP to build a stronger organization.

I share Mr. Brown’s respect for RCMP employees and echo his views regarding those who came forward and tenaciously pursued the issues at personal risk. These individuals deserve our recognition and our thanks and I am personally committed to seeing this happen.

Every day our employees are at work in communities, serving with selfless dedication, and at times putting themselves in harm’s way. Our goal is to ensure the safety and security of all Canadians. This, above all, is what unites each of the 26, 000 employees of the RCMP.”
