CHORAL 2008 is Canada’s largest and longest running choral competition. First launched in 1974, the biennial CBC Choral Competition was created to foster the continuing development of amateur choral singing in Canada and to provide a national stage for the very best of Canadian choirs and choral performances across the land.

Since the competition began 100,000 singers from over 2000 choirs have taken part and performed for millions of CBC Radio choral listeners. Open to all amateur choirs, the CBC Choral Competition is free and is hoped will encourage participation in singing across all age groups, cultures and local communities.

This year CHORAL 2008 is sponsored by CBC Radio / Radio Canada and The Canada Council for the Arts, and gives all choirs the opportunity to perform in a grand, two day, cross Canada, live-to-air broadcast competition before a national radio audience on both Radio 2 and Espace Musique.
