There's an international conference going on in St. John's right now that's looking at "produced" water. That's the waste water discharged during oil and gas production. Scientists, academics and contractors in the fields of biology, toxicology, geochemistry, organic chemistry, physical oceanography and environmental engineering are here for the confernece. Dr Ken Lee is the co-ordinator and the executive director of the Centre for Offshore Oil and Gas Environmental Research. And he joins Ted in the studio.

Ten people in this province and two from Quebec were arrested last week for drug trafficing. Police found hundreds of thousands of dollars, 51 pounds of marijuana and 19 pounds of cocaine in the St. John's area. Now, the bust will dry up some people's supply for awhile. But, it certainly won't stop the drug trade in Newfoundland and Labrador . Ron Fitzpatrick is the executive director of Turnings in St. John's. He's worked with addicts for years. He's seen drugs go in and out of style, the affect they have on the addicts and the community. Ron Fitzpatrick spoke with the CBC's Kathryn King.

In the late 1700s an Irish woman named Nano Nagle, founded the Presentation Sisters. She lit her way with a lantern as she ministered to the poor. Now, 250 years later, five Presentation Sisters, two from Newfoundland and Labrador are carrying on her work. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina the Sisters, all between the ages of 58 and 71 built a mission in New Orleans. This summer Wanita Bates visited the "Lantern Light." .... where everyday just before the gate opens for lunch the homeless and destitute offer up a prayer. Last Friday it was Take back The Night. This Friday, it'll be Take back The Square. People are tired of the frequent rumbles at Churchill Square in St. John's, between students from a number of schools, including Brother Rice, Holy Heart, Gonzaga, and Prince of Wales Collegiate. So they're organizing a rally this Friday at Noon, at the Square. Sarah Sexton is one of the rally's organizers. Ted asked her what prompted this move; here's what she said.
