QLF/Atlantic Center for the Environment exists to support the rural communities and environment of eastern Canada and New England, and to create models for stewardship of natural resources and cultural heritage that can be applied worldwide.

Focus on One Region
Eastern Canada and New England (the Atlantic Region) face similar challenges to ecological integrity and community sustainability. It makes sense for communities across the region to share solutions to common problems.

Work in Communities
QLF has found that solutions are more effective and enduring when they involve local participation and respect for natural and cultural heritage.

Long-term Commitment
QLF's programs emphasize continuity, trust building, long-term commitment, and leadership development. These qualities are an outgrowth of QLF's philosophy that the people of a community are crucial to solving local problems.

International Relevance
QLF is part of a growing international network of nongovernment organizations, government agencies, and community-based groups that work together on the common issues of environmental stewardship and economic vitality for rural areas.
