Welcome
This web site provides information on current and future opportunities for
Governor in Council (GiC) appointments to Crown corporations, agencies, boards and commissions. GiC
appointments are made by the Governor General, on the advice of the Queen's
Privy Council of Canada (federal Cabinet).
An Opportunity for Public Service
Appointment to a GiC position is an opportunity for an
experienced and highly skilled individual to make a contribution through public
service. You'll find that actively taking part in the strategic governance of
our national energy board, our postal service, or our bridge authorities, can be
both exciting and rewarding. The life of Canadians from sea to sea to sea is touched
daily by the advice, knowledge and expertise of the more than 2,000 women and
men who guide and serve on our publicly-owned institutions.

Strong leadership is a key component of effective governance in Crown
corporations, agencies, boards and commissions. In order to have strong public
institutions, the right individuals with the necessary expertise and skill set
are essential. This is why the guiding principles for Governor in Council (GiC) appointments are that they
be competency-based, professional, and transparent.
