Statement by Prime Minister Stephen Harper on the death of Constable Douglas Scott

6 November 2007
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement on the death of Constable Douglas Scott of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP):

“I wish to pay tribute to Constable Doug Scott, who died tragically in the line of duty in Kimmirut, Nunavut.

Constable Scott was in the early days of his career as an RCMP officer with strong ideals and a commitment to help his fellow Canadians.  He tragically lost his life while protecting the people of his community and will be remembered for his courage, bravery and dedication.

On behalf of Canadians, I extend my sincere sympathy to the family, friends and fellow colleagues of Constable Scott. We are forever grateful that young men and women like Constable Scott continue to respond to the call of duty often working under extreme circumstances, and in conditions of great danger.
