To further support the implementation of succession planning strategies, the
Succession Planning and Management Workshop Tool has been developed. The suite
of documents provides the materials needed to offer a half day workshop to Human
Resources
professionals so they can apply their knowledge of the Succession Planning and
Management Tool. The materials are intended to provide a general template for a
workshop and may be tailored to meet the needs of different organizations.
There are various subcomponents to the Tool which are organized under two
broad headings: Facilitators’ Documents and Participants’
Handouts. These
are briefly described below.
Facilitators' Documents
- Agenda: This is a sample agenda for the
workshop with approximate timelines. (Word document)
- Presentation deck with speaking notes: The presentation includes information such as the context for succession planning and management, demographic analyses, and the five-step process. It also includes slides pertaining to the case study, group discussion and debriefing. (PowerPoint
presentation)
- Discussion questions with sample answers:
Accompanying the presentation deck are supplementary notes which will
assist the facilitator in leading a group discussion at each of the five
steps in the succession planning and management process. (Word
document)
- Case study, organization
chart and debrief:
After the facilitator gives an overview of the Succession Planning and
Management Tool as contained in the deck, participants will be asked to work
through the process using a fictional case study and organization chart.
The debriefing document lists key points that should be raised by the
facilitator during the case discussion. (Word document)
- Evaluation form: A short
questionnaire is provided to participants in order to get feedback on
different aspects of the workshop. (Word document)
Participants' Handouts
- Presentation deck: This is the same deck that the facilitator uses but without the speaking notes.
(PowerPoint presentation)
- Case study: This is the case study that participants will be asked to apply their knowledge and answer questions in a plenary discussion.
