2007/11/14 Child porn stopped at US Border, Fredericton, N.B. On November 11th, 2007, four men from Tennessee, USA attempted to cross the US/Canadian Border in St Stephen, NB. The Canadian Border Services Agents searched the vehicle and located a large number of printed child pornography images. As a result, the RCMP District 1 in St Stephen and the RCMP Internet Child Exploitation Unit were called to assist with the investigation. The Tennessee ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children) Section were are also contacted and are assisting with this investigation for follow up. One man Verpo HAWKS, 45 years old, of Coalfield, Tennessee, was charged with Possession of Child Pornography Section 163.1(4)(a) of the Criminal Code and Smuggling Illegal Goods Section 159 of the Canada Customs Act. Hawks attended St Stephen Provincial Court on November 13th, 2007 where he plead not guity to both charges. Hawks waived his bail hearing and has been remanded to jail until his trial which is scheduled for December 19th, 2007 in St Stephen. The other three individuals were not charged and were released back to the United States. This investigation highlights the positive results attained through partnerships between all agencies involved which resulted in a successful investigation. - 30 - Contact: Cpl Jackie Basque RCMP Internet Child Exploitation Unit 506-452-4993	2007/11/14 Interception de matériel de pornographie juvénile à la frontière canado-américaine, Fredericton (N.-B.) Le 11 novembre 2007, quatre hommes du Tennessee (É.-U.) ont tenté de traverser la frontière canado-américaine à St. Stephen (N.-B.). Les agents des services frontaliers canadiens ont fouillé le véhicule et ont trouvé une grande quantité d’images de pornographie juvénile. Par conséquent, on a fait appel à la GRC de St. Stephen et au Groupe de lutte contre l’exploitation des enfants dans Internet de la GRC pour la poursuite de l’enquête. On a également communiqué avec la Tennessee ICAC Section (Internet Crimes Against Children), qui prête son concours à l’enquête et qui assurera un suivi. Un homme, Verpo HAWKS, 45 ans, de Coalfield au Tennessee, est accusé de possession de pornographie juvénile contrairement à l’alinéa 163.1(4)(a) du Code criminel, et d’introduction par contrebande de marchandises illicites, contrairement à l’article 159 de la Loi sur les douanes du Canada. Hawks a comparu en cour provinciale de St. Stephen le 13 novembre 2007 où il a plaidé non coupable aux deux accusations. Hawks a renoncé au droit à une audience sur le cautionnement et a été placé en détention préventive jusqu’à la tenue de son procès le 19 décembre 2007 à St Stephen.
