The Government of Canada's commitment to renew and strengthen public health includes the establishment of a series of National Collaborating Centres (NCC) ( ) for Public Health. Their mission is to translate ( ) existing and new evidence produced by academics and research in public health.

The centres draw on regional, national and international expertise and collaborate with various organizations, including the provinces and territories, academia and non-government organizations. They are located in different regions across the country, each one specializing in a priority area.

The centres focus on requirements for (and gaps in) knowledge and research in a variety of public health sectors through partnerships within academia, governments and non-governments and its communities of practice. Additionally, the centres work as a network, which support knowledge demands around public health goals and priorities as these evolve and change to respond to its' current needs.

Priorities are reviewed and assessed on a regular basis through a combination of activities by the National Collaborating Centre Program ( ), currently located within the PHAC NCR and its Advisory Council, comprised of national and international experts in public health.
