The Canadian regulatory environment is complex. Not only must government regulators protect national/ provincial/ territorial interests and improve quality of life, but also respect Canada’s domestic and international trade objectives, all the while supporting innovation and competition.
Helping government regulators make the most of the many standards and conformity assessment options available to them is part of the Standards Council of Canada’s job. The Standards Council has numerous programs and services designed to support the successful integration of standardization into regulatory practices. The Standards Council of Canada plays several roles as Canada’s national standardization body. In addition to representing Canada in international standards activities, it provides accreditation services for both standards development organizations and conformity assessment bodies. Standards Council accreditation is based on international guidelines, and is recognized by numerous other countries through mutual recognition agreements. |
