The 24 Frames Per Second Animation Workshop introduces students to the history and technology of the moving image. Through hands-on activities and film screenings students will learn about Norman McLaren's unique creative process. In this workshop students will use the tools and techniques pioneered by the legendary Norman McLaren to create their own animated film. Furthermore, students will be inspired by Norman McLaren's innovative works such as Blinkity Blank, Norman McLaren's Opening Speech and the Oscar®-winning film Neighbours. In addition to screening McLaren's films, students will also be introduced to contemporary NFB films by filmmakers inspired by McLaren's innovative tradition of animation filmmaking.
Hands-on activities in this workshop include scratching on film, drawing on film and pixilation. Projects created in the workshop will be screened in the NFB Cinema at the end of the program. All of our hands-on workshops can be adapted to meet the needs of your group. Please indicate your desired themes and objectives when speaking with our Team Leaders.
