September 26 2007 to December 31 2008
In this workshop children will be inspired by films from the Talespinners 2 collection to create their own animated story surrounding a theme selected from the collection. Following the screening portion of the workshop, participants will learn about story structure, character development and the role of sound in animation. Led by our expert facilitators, participants will then be challenged to work as a team to create their own collaborative story through a brainstorming exercise. Upon the completion of a storyline, the story will be divided up into short chapters.
At the pre-production stage, participants will work in small teams to develop a storyboard for their assigned chapter. Once they have completed their storyboards and planned their production they will work with clay and paper to create their characters and props. At the production stage participants will work together with an NFB facilitator to shoot their story using the technique of stop-motion animation.
Nearing the end of the workshop, each chapter will be edited together to create a cohesive story. At the post production stage participants will choose from a variety of soundtracks to add to their film. At the end of the workshop, participants will watch their finished production on the big screen! This workshop functions to promote the idea of working on a creative project as a team and will teach young people the basic steps of animation production.
