Canada's Heritage / World Heritage
This gallery introduces visitors to Canada’s system of
National Parks, National Historic Sites, National Marine Conservation
Areas and World Heritage sites through hands-on, interactive displays
and thematic environments.
Creating a sense of place for the nation, our National Historic
Sites help visitors to understand the story of Canada. The “Attic”
exhibit features 3 themes from our national historic sites: People,
Places and Events
The sights and sounds of a virtual salmon stream carry the visitor
into the world of Parks Canada. Each of the exhibits provides
a window to a significant aspect of the country. From a national
park boardwalk, visitors use touch screens to bring up large panoramic
images of our national parks. They can further zoom in on “hot
spots” of cultural or natural resources (tidal pools, wildlife
and flora). An artist’s pallet activates an interactive
canvas of paintings inspired by these landscapes: Lawren Harris,
A.Y Jackson, Emily Carr and many others.
Finally, visitors are introduced to the newest member of the
Parks family, National Marine Conservation Areas. For example,
one exhibit investigates the longest coastline on earth –
Canada’s – and our responsibility to protect it.
