Canada's Marine Heritage
Leaving gallery 1, visitors pass through a virtual kelp forest
and into Canada’s Marine Heritage gallery. Here they can
explore four distinct environments: Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic,
and St. Lawrence/Saguenay. The exhibit examines cultural and natural
environments, with a focus on the historical themes of fishing,
navigation, tourism, harvest of the seas and challenges for the
future.
A large floor map of Canada, and regional discovery benches fill
the gallery’s centre. Visitors can peer beneath the Arctic
ice or play in an interactive Pacific tide pool.
Canada’s Marine Heritage exhibits include:
- Marine Regions;
- Pacific Marine Region – Gulf of Georgia
National Historic Site, Pacific Sound Dome, Kelp Forest, Bear
