Representing Canada in international forums
The Labour Program manages Canada’s participation in key international labour forums, most notably the International Labour Organization* and the Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labour. Government positions on labour issues in other international fora, such as the OECD, the WTO, the G-8, the World Bank and other UN organizations, summits and events are also developed by the Labour Program.
*In the face of an increasing external demand for a better understanding of the issues arising out of globalization, along with widespread concern with the social dimension of globalization, and a need to develop new frameworks, the ILO established a "
World Commission on the Social Dimension of Globalization " to examine ways in which all international organizations can contribute to a more inclusive globalization process that is acceptable and fair to all.
