technical briefing – canada's participation in the international commission for the conservation of atlantic tunas

november  2005

Canada’s participation in the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) is another way that we are working to address the problem of overfishing, and to push for improved international fisheries and oceans governance as the solution to this global problem. ICCAT manages highly migratory species of tuna and tuna-like species in the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. Canada’s bluefin tuna and swordfish fisheries are impacted by decisions made by ICCAT, and the actions on the water by other ICCAT members.
