Sustainable Development - Environment

In our fourth Sustainable Development Strategy (SDS), which was tabled in Parliament in December 2006, Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) focuses directly on activities that will make the greatest contribution to sustainable development. By leveraging our role as the government’s provider of common, central and shared services, and as a custodian of real property, we are actively pursuing opportunities to accelerate the greening of government operations. We are integrating environmental considerations into the very heart of our business, by targeting three key business lines: real property, acquisitions and internal operations, and we are concentrating on demonstrating the results of our efforts. Focusing our departmental commitments in these key areas will translate into even greater economic, environmental and social dividends for government and for Canadian taxpayers.
