The International Spousal Employment Database

With the cooperation of management, the FSCA collaborated with DFAIT's SXIS group to create an electronic database for résumé that can be accessed around the world. This database has been professionally designed to be convenient and user-friendly to candidates and management alike, simple to use and packed with the information that's relevant to both.

This database was funded by the Foreign Service Community Association for two reasons:

1. To facilitate the consideration of all spouses of rotational employees for contract positions within the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, in Canada and abroad.
2. To promote effective networking among rotational spouses, especially when they are considering a new assignment.

An Invitation to Managers...............

You will find that rotational spouses are highly educated and capable individuals with a wide range of talents, expertise and international experience. When you are staffing any contract position, short or long term, we urge you to search this database for candidates. The system allows you to post information on specific employment opportunities or to search the database for candidates using "key words".

An Invitation to all Rotational Spouses................

If you're a rotational spouse, you are invited (you do not have to be an FSCA member) to input your résumé into the database. Maybe you're not currently looking for work, but the information you supply could help another spouse to make an informed choice about a potential assignment.

It is essential that you keep your information within the database up to date. For example, if you're working on a contract and the completion date has changed, it is important to change that on the database; an employer could be tempted to avoid accessing the system if his/her enquiries aren't fruitful. This system was created for spouses, by spouses, and it is our responsibility to ensure that our information is current and accurate.

Room to Grow.....................

This employment database is currently used within DFAIT but there is room for expansion. We welcome inquiries from managers in other departments of the Canadian public service and private companies and concerns, especially those with an international focus.
