Commemorative DatesINTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAYMarch 8, 2007Ending Violence Against Women: Action for Real Results2007 marks the 30th anniversary of International Women's Day. Established in 1977 by the United Nations, this important day provides an opportunity to celebrate the progress made to advance women's rights and to assess the challenges that remain. International Women's Day (IWD) encourages us to consider steps to bring about equality for women and girls in all their diversity and to celebrate the collective power of women past, present and future. This year, Canadians will celebrate International Women's Week (IWW) from Sunday, March 4, to Saturday, March 10, with the highlight being International Women's Day on March 8. We encourage you to promote IWD/IWW by sharing this promotional notice with others, or even better, by organizing an activity in your own community or organization. THEMEEnding Violence Against Women: Action for Real Results is Canada's theme for International Women's Day (IWD) 2007. This theme reflects Canada's approach to addressing gender-based violence. IWD 2007 provides an opportunity to focus our collective attention on violence against women and girls in Canadian society and to consider concrete measures to end this social problem. Now more than ever, we must take action to end violence so that women and girls are able to participate fully in society. This year, as we affirm our commitment to ending violence against women, let us also celebrate the women of Canada, past and present, and their vital role in making this one of the greatest countries in the world. IWW 2007 is a perfect time to celebrate Canada, where women and men enjoy equal rights in all aspects of life. As the IWD 2007theme underscores, when we work together, we can achieve tremendous results. ![]() NEWS RELEASES AND STATEMENTS
