GOVERNMENT TO ATTEND NAC LOBBY DAY



OTTAWA  -- The Government will participate in this year's Lobby Day sponsored by the National Action Committee on the Status of Women (NAC), planned for September 22, 1997. The Government's participation was confirmed today by the Honourable Hedy Fry, Secretary of State (Multiculturalism) (Status of Women).

Announcing the Government's participation, Dr. Fry said, "NAC continues to bring forward to the public and the government many of the most pressing issues faced by women today. The Lobby Day provides the opportunity for NAC to present its views directly to the government and at the same time provides us with the opportunity to listen and respond."

Friday, September 19, 1997 the Government releases its written response to questions submitted by NAC for discussion on Monday. The questions focus on a number of issues including, male violence against women, health policy, post secondary education for women, women and work, pension policy, the rights of women with disabilities, aboriginal women's involvement in reviewing the constitution and immigration issues.

The Lobby Day meeting will be held in Room 200 West Block, Parliament Hill, between 10:00 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.

Copies of the Government responses will be available on request after September 22, 1997.
