Secretary of State Fry will be receiving an award at the Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto's 3rd Annual Hero Awards Gala
OTTAWA -- The Honourable Hedy Fry, Secretary of State (Multiculturalism) (Status of Women) will be receiving an award at the Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto's 3rd Annual Hero Awards Gala, to be held this evening at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto. The award is in recognition of Dr. Fry's contribution to federal legislation that has had an impact on the gay and lesbian community, and for her support of gay and lesbian rights.
The Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto established the Hero Awards in 1993. The awards are granted annually to recognize outstanding achievement by individuals, organizations and corporations in support of the gay and lesbian community, their friends and their families. This year's Gala is a fundraising event for the Church's CommunityCARE Home Program, which, among other support initiatives, provides palliative care for women, men and children in the final stages of AIDS, ALS, cancer and other terminal illnesses, in the comfort of their own homes.
