Femmes Beauce-Sartigan receives funding to promote women's entrepreneurship

Ottawa, November 10, 2006 -- Vision femmes Beauce-Sartigan will receive a grant of $23,820 from Status of Women Canada for an initiative to promote female entrepreneurship in the Beauce-Sartigan region of Quebec.  The Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of Industry and Member of Parliament for Beauce, made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Bev Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women.

“This funding will encourage women to start their own businesses, which will lead to an increase in women entrepreneurs throughout the region and provide a boost to the local economy,” Minister Bernier said.

Through the initiative, Vision femmes Beauce-Sartigan aims to encourage women's entrepreneurship, and in so doing, change local attitudes toward women's entrepreneurship and eliminate obstacles encountered by women who want to start their own businesses. The group plans to prepare a list of women entrepreneurs in the region who can act as resource persons, organize workshops in each of the 16 municipalities served by Vision femmes Beauce-Sartigan and meet with representatives of local organizations that share an interest in women's entrepreneurship.

Status of Women Canada is the federal government agency working to promote the full participation of women in the economic, social and cultural life of Canada.
