Canada Graduate Scholarships Program - Master's Scholarships

The Canada Learning Bond (CLB) program contributes a $500 bond to Registered Education Savings Plans opened by families receiving the National Child Benefit Supplement under the Canada Revenue Agency's Canada Child Tax Benefit program.

Eligibility Information

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada
  • not be under SSHRC sanction resulting from financial or research misconduct
  • have achieved a first-class average, as determined by their university, in each of the last two years of full-time study or equivalent
  • be pursuing their first master's degree
  • have not completed more than 12 months of full-time graduate study at the proposed start date of the scholarship
  • have completed all the requirements of their bachelor's degree at the time the scholarship is granted
  • have not already received an award for master's-level study from SSHRC, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), or the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)
  • not be applying in the 2006-07 academic year for funding from the NSERC or CIHR
  • programs of study must include an advanced research training component and be offered at a recognized Canadian university
  • applicants not currently registered at a university must have completed the requirements of their bachelor's degree after January 1, 2001
  • other criteria may apply

Application Information

  • Students who are currently registered at a Canadian university that has received Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGS) funding must apply directly to their university.
  • Students who are currently registered at a foreign university or at a Canadian university that has not received CGS funding must apply through SSHRC.
  • Applicants who are not currently registered at a university should contact the Program for information regarding the application process.

Dates and Deadlines

  • Scholarships are awarded in May, September and January.
  • For students applying directly to a university, the application deadline is established by the university.
  • For all other candidates, the application deadline is determined by the Program.
