National Victims of Crime Awareness Week - April 23 to 29, 2006

National Victims of Crime Awareness Week

April 23 to April 29, 2006

April 23 to 29, 2006 will mark the first National Victims of Crime Awareness Week in Canada – an opportunity to raise awareness about victim issues and about the services and laws in place to help victims and their families. During the Week the dedication of those who work to support and assist victims will also be recognized. The theme for this year's Week will be People, Services and Laws: Did You Know?

Your community can observe this week by hosting a commemorative activity to promote awareness of victims' issues and services. For more information and ideas on how to hold an event or activity in your community, visit the Resource Guide section of this site.

For news and events happening at a national level, visit our Newsroom and Events section.

During National Victims of Crime Awareness Week, and throughout the year, you can also help victims and their families by volunteering to assist victims, by referring victims you know to available services, and by being a source of personal support for victims of crime. To find out more information about Victim Services organizations in your community, see the back pages of your phone book under federal, provincial, municipal listings.
