Disability Award Program

The Disability Award Program is meant to recognize and compensate for the non-economic impacts of a service-related disability.

Delivered by: Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC)

Eligibility Information

Applicants must be one of the following:

  • a Canadian Forces (CF) member or veteran with a service-related injury or disease, or a non service-related injury or disease that was aggravated by service
  • a survivor
  • other criteria may apply

Financial Information

  • For 2007, the maximum Disability Award is $255,729.25. It is adjusted annually based on the cost-of-living index.

Related Information

  • Applicants do not need to qualify for a Disability Award to qualify for some of the other benefits under the New Veterans Charter.
  • The Disability Award is not linked to the Rehabilitation Program; therefore, applicants can participate in the Rehabilitation Program, but not qualify for a Disability Award.
