Drugs, contraband cigarettes and cash seized: local man arrested

OTTAWA – October 30, 2007 – Last evening following a 20 month investigation. The Ottawa RCMP Drug Section, in partnership with the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Drug Unit, seized several kilograms of drugs and cash as the result of executing a search warrant.

In addition to nearly $80 000 in cash and 20 000 contraband cigarettes, the following drugs were also seized:

  • 27 kilograms of Cannabis (marijuana)
  • 4 kilograms of Cocaine
  • 2 kilograms of Cannabis Resin (hashish)
    (all amounts approximate)

Charged is :
Graham Malcolm MacEachern, 59, of Ottawa. Charges have been laid this morning and the subject remains in custody. His next court appearance has yet to be determined.

MacEachern faces charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) for possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, cannabis resin (hashish) and cannabis (marijuana). He is also charged under the Criminal Code for having in his possession a value exceeding $5000.00 proceeds of property all or in part obtained or derived directly or indirectly from the commission in Canada of an offence punishable by indictment, to wit: possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to section 354 (1) thereby committing an offence under section 355(b).

The Ottawa RCMP Customs and Excise Section is continuing the investigation into the contraband cigarettes seized.
