Burglary at the Canada Science and Technology Museum: It’s your job to solve the crime!

 

March Break: An Adventure in Forensics

Ottawa, Ontario, February 23, 2007 - This March Break at the Canada and Science Technology, young detectives are invited to take part in an adventure in forensics. With their investigation notebook, kids can take notes on all possible evidence to solve the burglary which has occurred at the Museum. From March 3 to 18, visitors can discover the fascinating world of forensic science and visit the Autopsy of a Murder exhibition, along with other favorite exhibitions.

There has been a burglary at the Museum, and forensic science is your ticket to solving the crime. Use your crime passport to take notes on all possible evidence. Young detectives are invited to create their own CSI badge and analyze footprints, tool marks- and even their own handwriting!

During March Break visitors can take part in the following activities:

Everyday

  • Tracking the Clues: Discover how professionals collect and analyze shoeprints, tire prints and tool marks.
  • Examining the Scene: Analyze fiber, hair and soil samples in the hopes of cracking the case.
  • Chasing the Evidence: Find out how forensic scientists examine fingerprints, lip prints and dental imprints.
  • Spotting the Fake: Discover techniques for identifying counterfeit money as well as forged artwork and handwriting.
  • Make a CSI Badge: Personalize your Crime Scene Investigation badge at this activity station.
  • Meet a Forensic Scientist: Discover what it takes to be a forensic scientist with the Ottawa Police Department. Find out about this fascinating profession and see some of the tools of the trade at daily presentations.

Weekends Only

  • Mystery at the Museum: Are you a good eyewitness? Test your observation skills and learn about the work of forensic artists at this lively presentation.
  • Sensing the Clues: Explore how your sense of sight and smell can help you hunt for clues.
  • Reading Between the Lines: Discover what secrets are unlocked with the science of papers and inks. Test your skill at writing (and reading) secret messages.

All activities are included with regular admission fees

The Canada Science and Technology Museum’s events and exhibitions provide an overview of Canada’s rich scientific and technological heritage. The Museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday to Sunday. Admission for adults is $6; $3 for children (ages 4-14); $5 for students and seniors; $14 for a family (2 adults and 3 children); free for children under 4. The Canada Science and Technology Museum is located at 1867 St.Laurent Boulevard and offers free parking on-site.
