CSC Review Panel
The Government of Canada is committed to protecting Canadian families and communities. To further this commitment, the Government has established an independent panel to review the Correctional Service of Canada's (CSC) operational priorities, strategies and business plans with a view to enhancing public safety.
Our mandate
The independent panel is mandated to review the current CSC business and operational plans, and other relevant documents. Based on this review, the panel will provide the Minister of Public Safety with an independent assessment of CSC's contributions to public safety and advice on how they might be strengthened.
Panel membership
Members of the panel were appointed by the Minister of Public Safety. Each member brings an important element of knowledge and experience to the CSC Review Panel, which, when taken together, can objectively and effectively look at CSC internally and as a key player in the criminal justice system.
Input from stakeholders
An important contribution to the review is input from organizations, stakeholders and partners who share the common objective of safer communities. The panel is approaching such groups for information that they would not otherwise be able to collect or consider.

Correctional Service Canada
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC), is an agency within the portfolio of the Department of Public Safety. CSC is headed by the Commissioner, who reports to the Minister of Public Safety.
CSC is responsible for administering sentences involving a term of two years or more, as imposed by the court. CSC prepares eligible inmates for safe release into society and supervises offenders on conditional release and Long-Term Supervision Orders (LTSOs). CSC does not have the legal authority to lessen or extend sentences imposed by the court.
