Toyota Canada plant chosen to pioneer new model change system
Because Toyota of Japan recognizes the strong commitment to quality and improvement at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC—Cambridge, Ontario), it is making that plant the pioneer for a new model change policy that reduces dependence on trainers dispatched from Japan. Toyota is finding itself short of trainers as it rapidly opens new plants around the world. It has decided that it can reduce by half or more the number of trainers sent to TMMC during model change periods because the quality of work at the plant is so high. The new policy will start with Corolla and Matrix model changes in early 2008. Toyota hopes to extend the “fewer trainers from Japan” trend from Canada to its other plants around the world.
