The Energy Working Group

The Energy Working Group allows Canada, the United States and Mexico to discuss the shared energy policy challenges in North America — including energy science and technology and energy market facilitation — while respecting the different legal frameworks and policy drivers of each country.

The group is currently focused on implementing the North American Energy Security Initiative announced by the leaders of Canada, the U.S. and Mexico in Cancun in May 2006. Priorities include:

  • Opportunities for collaboration on energy science and technology;
  • Energy efficiency standards; and
  • Barriers to deploying clean energy technologies in North America.

Other discussions involve energy regulation, nuclear energy and energy forecasts for North America. Discussions with Canadian industry include ongoing consultations with the Energy Council of Canada and other industry associations.
