AbstractThe percentage of subcompact cars in the total sales of
light-duty vehicles with the model year 1990 is shown here for the populated
areas. Light-duty vehicles include all cars and light trucks. There is
a significant spatial variation for the market share of subcompact cars with
the model year 1990 across Canada. Almost all areas with subcompact car shares
over 17% are found in southern Quebec, while the lowest subcompact car shares
are in the Prairie Provinces. The Windsor-Quebec Corridor also had higher than
average market shares of this vehicle class, as did the Lower Mainland British
Columbia. It is noticeable that urban areas have relatively higher market shares
of subcompact cars than rural areas.
