Minister of Public Safety commends the USDEA and the RCMP for arrests involving illicit steroid labs

October 10, 2007 - The Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, made the following statement today concerning an announcement by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, of arrests in Operation Raw Deal, an 18 month international investigation of steroid laboratories.

“As the Prime Minister stated last week, Canada's New Government is deeply committed to tackling the problem of drugs on all levels. Beyond its possible criminal consequences, drug abuse can be a serious health and social problem.

On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to commend the RCMP, the US Drug Enforcement Administration and the international partners involved in this operation.

Their successful efforts demonstrate the valuable international cooperation that protects communities around the world.

The Government of Canada remains committed to ensuring that our law enforcement agencies have the tools and resources to tackle crime and to keep our streets free from drugs.”
