Vietnam - floods - natural disaster

The monsoon season is underway and heavier than average rains have caused severe flooding and landslides across Vietnam, particularly in the central provinces including Binh Dinh, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Nam and Danang. The disaster has killed more than 200 people, and many more have been affected. Several buildings, roads and bridges have been damaged.

Canadians living or traveling in these regions should be aware that sudden flooding may occur, affecting transportation and telecommunication systems. Other services that may be affected include emergency and medical care, as well as water and food supplies. Water-borne diseases could also become a threat. Canadians should monitor local weather reports, avoid disaster areas, and contact the Embassy of Canada in Hanoi should they require assistance.
