Clean Fossil Fuels

Objective

To provide science and technology for the continued, secure supply of affordable and cleaner fossil fuels (primarily oil sands), with little or no adverse environmental impacts on air and water.

Targeted ecoENERGY Technology Activities

Planned activities will:

• advance knowledge and technologies to support clean air (greenhouse gas emissions and air contaminants) regulations in the oil and gas industry
  
  
• support technologies specifically pertaining to oil sands environmental aspects to reduce water and energy consumption
  
  
• focus on
  
  • measurement and mitigation of air contaminants from the upstream oil and gas sector
    
  • energy-efficient technologies to improve oil sands processes
    
  • water management in oil sands processes

NOTE:  the planned activities described here will be reviewed and refined during the development of a strategic plan and a detailed implementation plan for this priority area.
