Examples of Eligible Firm Projects

CATIP - Firm Component

Eligible Companies

Legal entities currently established and operating in Canada within the apparel or textile manufacturing sectors and created for the purpose of earning a profit, including corporations, partnerships, trusts and consortia. Canadian designers whose designs are manufactured in Canada are eligible.

The applicant needs to demonstrate management capability and the financial wherewithal to undertake the activity and have a proven product or service with a history of sales in Canada or abroad.

Examples of Firm Projects Eligible under CATIP

Type of Project

  • Evaluate Operations (diagnostics, bench marking)
    • studies
    • implementation of studies
  • Information Technology and E-commerce
    • studies
    • implementation of studies
  • New Niche and Market Analysis
    • studies
    • Program for Export Market Development (PEMD) may cover market visits and trade fair participation abroad
  • Identification and Implementation of Best Practices in: 
    • design
    • technology
    • management
    • administration
    • production (e.g., B2B capabilities, lean manufacturing)
  • Access to Capital
    • development of strategic business plans and other documents required to facilitate access to capital/loan applications, to support investment in equipment, training and technology, innovation and the exploitation of leading edge technologies

Eligible and Ineligible Costs

Reasonable and necessary for the completion of the eligible activities for which they are related.

Eligible costs may include, but are not limited to: 

  • salaries
  • wages and benefits
  • the cost of materials and supplies
  • the cost for the services of consultants and other professionals

Capital costs or the purchase of fixed assets are NOT eligible.

Consulting fees related to the cost of preparing a CATIP application are NOT eligible.

Type and Maximum Contribution

Contributions may be made of up to 50 percent of eligible costs, to a maximum, non-repayable contribution of $100 000 per approved project. However, this level of assistance should not be expected in all cases. Contributions will be contingent upon available program funds as well as the frequency of applications to the program.
