Seniors' Care : Care in Your Home

For seniors with moderate care needs who prefer to stay at home, home and community support services provide flexible and practical solutions. These services can be offered in your home or at other locations within the community. Services can be obtained individually or in combination.

Home and Community Support Services are made up of :
  1. Visiting Health Professional Services
  2. Personal Care and Support
  3. Homemaking
  4. Community Support Services

Home and community support services are delivered by a variety of sources including :

  • family and friends
  • volunteers within your community
  • provider organizations (see Glossary of Terms )
  • commercial retailers
  • community centers

Home and community support services are funded by various sources, including :

  • the government (provincial and/or municipal)
  • donations to voluntary organizations (who often deliver these types of services)
  • private insurance or benefit plans (e.g. private health insurance)
  • the individual (e.g. by purchasing services privately)

It is quite common for seniors wanting to stay in their home to find solutions by mixing different sources for delivering and funding services.
