Canada Border Services Agency
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is the first
point of contact for travellers to Canada. Operating at more than 1,350 service
points across Canada and in nearly 40 locations abroad, the CBSA facilitates
legitimate cross-border traffic and supports Canada's economic development,
while stopping people and goods that pose a potential risk to Canada. At
Canadian ports of entry, the CBSA issues temporary resident documents, which
include the study permits required to attend post secondary institutions in
Canada. Additional information on this and other CBSA programs and services is
available on the CBSA Web
site.
Citizenship and Immigration Canada
Citizenship and Immigration Canada's (CIC) has a
vision for Canada to be a country that attracts and welcomes people from all
parts of the world, both to enrich our economic, social and cultural development
and to protect those in need of Canada's protection.
This vision is possible as a result of CIC's mandate
which comes from the shared jurisdiction of Section 95 of the Constitution Act,
1867, the Citizenship Act, and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
CIC's contribution to this web portal is Step 3,
Determine Student Visa requirements. To receive personalized visa information, a
student must provide the following information:
- country of legal permanent residence;
- country of citizenship;
- country of the passport the student uses for travelling;
- country where the student is legally living;
- duration of the course of study in Canada;
- province or territory where the student intends to study; and
- if the student will be travelling with a spouse, children or partner.
Once the information has been provided, the site will
generate various steps that the student needs to follow in order to obtain a
Study Permit. These steps are specific to the criteria entered by the student.
This section links directly to the CIC Internet site to provide the student with
the information about obtaining their Study Permit and to provide other valuable
information for international students coming to Canada.

Statistics Canada
Statistics Canada is dedicated to producing
statistical information for Canadians about Canada - its population, resources,
economy, society and culture. In Canada, providing statistics is mainly a
federal responsibility. Therefore, as Canada's central statistical agency,
Statistics Canada is legislated to serve this function for the whole of Canada,
as well as for each of the provinces.
We at Statistics Canada are committed to protecting
the confidentiality of all the information entrusted to us and to ensuring that
the statistics we deliver are accurate, timely and relevant to Canadians. We are
guided by the fundamental values of confidentiality, accuracy, objectivity and
timeliness - all completely free of any political bias.
In addition to conducting a census every five years,
Statistics Canada also conducts about 350 active surveys on virtually all
aspects of Canadian life. The Agency ensures that its statistical information is
published in a variety of formats and is made available to all Canadians,
including to those who rely on it to help them provide the best possible
services or set the most effective policies - and even to those Canadians who rely
on Statistics Canada information simply to gain a better grasp of their country.
The Statistics Canada website at www.statcan.ca is its foremost vehicle for
disseminating information. Access to objective statistical information is vital
to an open and democratic society. It is the solid foundation upon which elected
representatives, businesses, unions, non-profit organizations and individual
Canadians base their informed decisions.
Browse the website and find free information on
Canada. Look through Canadian Statistics and discover more than 350 regularly
updated tables on the most-requested significant aspects of Canada. Unique among
the world's statistical agencies is a feature called The Daily, Statistics
Canada's official bulletin, which releases statistical information on current
social and economic conditions and on new Statistics Canada products. Community
Profiles features a snapshot of each and every community in Canada. Whatever
your information needs, from publications to electronic data, from census to
survey information, www.statcan.ca is the
official source for Canadian social and economic statistics.
For Statistics Canada, the beginning of the 1990s was
marked by international recognition for the world-class quality of our
statistics. That reputation has been maintained throughout the last decade and
into the new millennium as we continue to meet Canada's changing information
needs and the challenges associated with reporting the emerging new trends in
Canadian society and economy.
