38th General Election

On May 23rd, 2004, the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Jean-Pierre Kingsley, directed the returning officers in Canada's 308 federal electoral districts to conduct the election of a member of the House of Commons. Election day for the 38th federal general election, set by the Governor in Council, will be Monday, June 28, 2004. more»

60th Anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy

In 2004, Canada marks the 60th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy. On June 6, 1944, Allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy, and the Canadian Airmen and Sailors were among the first into action. D-Day and the Battle of Normandy was one of Canada's most significant military engagements, which led to the end of the Second World War.
