Gary Bass, O.O.M.

Gary Bass joined the RCMP from New Brunswick in 1971 and, following training, was posted to Canada’s East Coast where he worked in General Duties, Underwater Recovery Operations, National Criminal Intelligence Section and General Investigation Section.

In 1992, he was commissioned to the rank of Inspector and transferred to British Columbia’s Provincial Serious Crime Section. D/Commr. Bass has investigated and overseen a multitude of complex investigations, including several hundred homicides. He has been accepted as an expert witness in Supreme Court in Canada with respect to Major Case Management, Organized Crime and Drug investigations.

Through successive positions of increasing responsibility, in December 2006, D/Commr. Bass was promoted to his current rank and position as the Deputy Commissioner Pacific Region and Commanding Officer “E” Division for the RCMP in British Columbia. He is responsible for all policing matters for the 5800 police officers serving hundreds of communities from 127 Detachments.

D/Commr. Bass is the recipient of a Commanding Officer’s Commendation, two Commissioner’s Commendations, the RCMP Good Conduct & Long Service Medal with Gold Clasp, the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal and has been invested as an Officer of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces.  He holds a Master of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice as well as a Certificate in Criminology.
