Data Tables

Access to CANSIM for media

In an effort to improve media access to data, Statistics Canada now offers accredited journalists access to CANSIM data for a nominal annual fee.

CANSIM is a database that contains data on labour, health, income, trade, education, manufacturing, investment and more. Updated daily, the database allows a user to search for data by subject, keyword, table or series number, and allows access to CANSIM tables listed in releases in The Daily, as well as data from external sources, such as the Bank of Canada and Natural Resources Canada.

For more information, or to set up your media access to CANSIM account, please contact Media Relations in Ottawa, by telephone at (613) 951-4636, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time; by fax at (613) 951-1104, or by sending an e-mail to mediahotline@statcan.ca.

Users of this service are invited to:

  • Consult a Statistics Canada subject matter analyst on interpretations of the data. Media Relations can assist in contacting an analyst.
  • Take note of all remarks regarding CANSIM tables, such as footnotes and data quality indicators. These are essential to the proper interpretation of data.
  • Cite CANSIM as the source of the data. The following citation for CANSIM is recommended:
