Fish Harvester Fined $400 For Fishing Violations

ST. JOHN’S, NL – Eugene Walsh of Shea Heights was convicted of fishing for cod during a closed time and leaving gear unattended for more than 72 hours. Mr. Walsh was fined $200.00 for fishing cod during a closed time and forfeited 2 gillnets to the Crown on August 27, 2007 in St. John’s Provincial Court. He was also fined $200.00 for leaving gear unattended for more than 72 hours, for a total fine of $400.00.

On September 15, 2006 fishery officers from the Bay Roberts Detachment seized two gillnets owned by Eugene Walsh. The gillnets should have been removed from the water by August 27, 2006.
