Address Ranges, Street Names and Place Names now available in 2006-2007 edition of the Nova Scotia NRN dataset

October 15, 2007

On behalf of the Canadian Council of Geomatics (CCOG), Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is pleased to announce the release of the first submission of the Nova Scotia portion of National Road Network, edition 2.0 (NRN 2.0) produced by Service Nova Scotia And Municipal Relations (SNSMR) through the Nova Scotia Geomatics Centre (NSGC) and carried out in the framework of a maintenance agreement between NRCan, Statistics Canada and SNSMR.

This GeoBase NRN 2.0 dataset now includes Address Ranges, Street Names and Place Names and was produced in collaboration with SNSMR and its provincial partners:

  • Emergency Measures Organization
  • Transportation and Public Works
  • 55 Municipal Units
  • First Nations

SNSMR continues to work with its 55 Municipal partners, Natural Resources Canada and Statistics Canada to deliver the Nova Scotia component of the National Road Network (NRN). Much progress has been made toward achieving the NRN 2.0 specification. The current submission from Nova Scotia does not include the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), due to an on-going effort to transition to the Nova Scotia Road Network (NSRN) geometry. SNSMR continues to work in collaboration with HRM to integrate municipal road network and address attribute data for future inclusion into the NRN.

NRCan is proud to be associated with SNSMR through the NSGC and their efforts in maintaining the GeoBase NRN. NSGC is to be congratulated for their efforts and success in working within a community of stakeholders that are actively participating in the maintenance of their provincial road network and producing an NRN dataset in compliance with the National Standards.

This dataset includes 105 km of new road constructions.
