Here and Now, Aboriginal Contemporary Art

Gatineau, Quebec, May 28, 2007 — On June 8 at the Canadian Museum of Civilization, come find out what triggers the inspiration of Canadian artists in a round table discussion on Aboriginal contemporary art. Join artists Faye HeavyShield, David Garneau and Rebecca Belmore and learn more about what triggers inspiration for them.

This activity, led by Museum's curator Lee-Ann Martin, is presented in conjunction with the exhibition In My Lifetime, which features the work of eight Aboriginal artists. The sculptures, paintings and mixed media installations are rooted in the artists' identities and reflect their ancestral history and contemporary concerns through the prism of personal memory. Together, the works provide a compelling snapshot of Canadian Aboriginal perspectives today. In My Lifetime is presented from June 9 to March 16, 2008.
