Chamber Music Festival: Chinese MusicGatineau, Quebec, July 18, 2007 — On July 25 and 26, hear an exciting ensemble of masterful musicians create new sounds on ancient instruments. In partnership with the Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival, the Canadian Museum of Civilization is pleased to present Red Chamber on July 25 and Mei Han and Randy Raine-Reusch on July 26. Two concerts you will not want to miss!
Red Chamber plays traditional and contemporary music, ranging from ancient Chinese string band music that is seldom heard in the West, to bluegrass and jazz fusion. The virtuosic performers set the stage on fire with hot licks, power and passion! Featuring only plucked strings, Red Chamber creates a unique sound while performing a repertoire that spans centuries, including music transcribed from the Tang Dynasty (618–907 CE), to modern compositions.
Mei Han and Randy Raine-Reusch have created a radical new repertoire, combining 5,000 years of Chinese musical traditions with jazz, new and world music. These rich innovations result from the collision of two cultures: Chinese virtuoso Mei Han's deep roots in traditional music and the modern innovations of Canadian multi-instrumentalist Randy Raine-Reusch.
