Enjoy a variety of Chinese folk dances

Gatineau, Quebec, August 20, 2007 — On August 25 and 26, the Canadian Museum of Civilization invites you to a colourful and energetic presentation of traditional Chinese dances by the Chinese Dance Troupe of Ottawa. The performance will showcase traditional Chinese folk styles including folk dances from various ethnic minorities in the country. The Chinese Ottawa Dance Troupe is a not-for-profit arts group dedicated to promoting cultural awareness and enriching our community.

Chinese dance dates back nearly 5,000 years. The various ethnic minority groups in China differ widely in their folkways and customs. They have different modes of production and life styles, as displayed in their dress and adornments, diet, housing, marriage and etiquette. The dance presentations will showcase some of that variety, both in costumes and styles of movement.

This performance of Chinese folk dance is presented in conjunction with the Museum's newest exhibition, Treasures from China, on display until October 28, 2007. Treasures from China, is a rare opportunity for visitors to see some of the finest artifacts that illuminate the cultural history of the oldest continuous civilization on earth.
